TBG Project Receives Statewide Golden Trowel Award

We’re excited to share that a TBG project has received a 2026 Statewide Golden Trowel Award. Announced during the Texas Masonry Council Statewide Convention in The Woodlands, the awards recognize exceptional projects elevated from regional competitions in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Central Texas.

Sienna Crescent Spring Roundabout – Missouri City, Texas

First Place: Hardscape and Landscape category

Set within the Sienna master-planned community along the Brazos River, the Sienna Crescent Spring Roundabout establishes an immediate sense of permanence through a fully load-bearing masonry system rooted in historic building practices.

Rather than applying masonry as a finish over concealed structural steel, the project embraces masonry as the structure itself. Interlocking units, compression and mass allow the system to carry its own weight. Once grouted, the structure became fully self-supporting.

The Statewide Golden Trowel Awards recognize the outstanding design of Architects and the skilled craftsmanship of the Mason Contractors, while celebrating the legacy of their partnership. Congratulations to our partner Hoggatt, the General Contractor, self-performing as the Masonry Contractor for their dedication and shared vision!

The most technically demanding element was the double-arch condition, in which two arches rise from a single spring point. Each arch had to be constructed independently while accounting for the forces of the other. With little tolerance for error, alignment, spacing and geometry had to be carefully controlled throughout construction.

Completed over six weeks, the installation reflects the knowledge and discipline of Hoggatt’s masons as much as the original design intent. The project’s success depended on an ongoing exchange between digital geometry, traditional construction techniques and expertise in the field.

The Statewide Golden Trowel Awards recognize outstanding architectural design and skilled masonry craftsmanship while celebrating the enduring partnership between designers and masons.
