Monarch View Park is a new 9-acre park for the City of Frisco that aims to restore Blackland Prairie as well as provide a gathering place for human visitors and Blackland Prairie flora and fauna alike. Existing trees provide character and a visually appealing backdrop while a large berm is being repurposed as a key play feature envisioned as an elevated knoll lookout. The park’s central core includes a variety of high-use zones, including sports fields, playground and pavilion, and trails and signage provide additional interest. At the site’s highest point stand six 12-foot-tall monarch sculptures, as if they’re mid-flight. A plant palette consisting of recommended plants for restoring the Prairie were used, such as sage, muhly grass, and specialized ground cover mix to attract pollinators and restore the soil.
