Celebrating Our Principal’s Achievement in Biophilic Design
We are thrilled to announce that Adam Shriver, principal in our Austin office and team leader, has recently earned a Foundations of Biophilic Design Certificate from the International Living Future Institute. This achievement underscores both the firm’s commitment and Adam’s to integrating and preserving nature, enhancing both human well-being and environmental sustainability.
What is Biophilic Design?
Biophilic design is gaining attention as a solution pathway for healthy people and cities. It is an imperative within the Living Building Challenge and offers an important nature-based design framework for promoting wellness, cultural richness, and equity in the built environment. This design philosophy provokes exciting new thinking about the potential of the built environment and invites the team to capture the benefits of designing for human-nature connection.
The Importance of Biophilic Design in the Built Environment
Biophilic design plays a crucial role in creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also beneficial to our mental and physical health. By integrating natural elements such as plants, water features, and natural light, we can create environments that reduce stress, enhance creativity, and improve overall well-being. At TBG, we apply biophilic design principles to the planning and design of our civic parks and open spaces, creating environments that breathe, grow, and inspire.
About the Biophilic Design Certification Program
The Foundations of Biophilic Design Certificate is a comprehensive 12-hour program delivered fully online and on-demand. It includes content and guidance from the field’s leading experts, an e-book, and a practice design activity. Participants also gain access to the Biophilic Design Toolkit, a digital resource full of additional information to explore within and beyond the certificate curriculum. Upon completion, participants earn a certificate issued by the International Living Future Institute and are equipped to bring a biophilic approach to their next project.
Looking Ahead
We are excited to continue to more deliberately incorporate the principles of biophilic design into our work and in our storytelling. Adam’s certification is a testament to our dedication to creating spaces that harmonize with nature and enhance the quality of life for all who experience them.
Stay tuned for more updates on our biophilic design initiatives and how we are transforming landscapes to foster a deeper connection with nature.
