TBG’s very own Principal of Urban Design in the San Antonio office, Samantha Whitney, has been selected to serve as Co-Chair of ULI San Antonio’s Placemaking Local Member Council! Her term runs through December of this year. During this time, she will help plan the calendar of monthly tours of local case studies and assist in facilitating discussions with fellow members around key takeaways of how placemaking plays an impactful role in San Antonio.

The LMCs are modeled after ULI National’s Product Councils and are designed to be an outlet at the local level for ULI members to share knowledge around a particular topic in the land use/real estate industry. At the end of the year, co-chairs curate a final presentation on what they learned throughout their term and share this with other Local Member Councils and the broader ULI San Antonio membership at the annual “Idea Fest.”

On the role so far, Sam says, “It’s a great way to get to know San Antonio better. Each project we visit has some element of placemaking or a key public/open space to it that interprets the local neighborhood or regional context in a way that makes it special and impactful. Then learning how each development was planned, designed, and delivered allows each of us further our knowledge and apply fresh ideas in our day-to-day work.”
