The 2026 Texas ASLA Annual Conference kicks off in Forth Worth this week! The conference theme, “Unexpected,” explores how moments of surprise and discovery can push designers beyond conventional thinking to uncover new ideas, solutions, and forms of beauty. The conference focuses on embracing the unforeseen as a driver of innovation, collaboration, and lasting impact in landscape architecture and design. Here’s where TBG is involved throughout the event:

Wednesday, April 1st from 1:45pm – 2:45pm (Session 4C)

From Overlooked Edge to Civic Destination: The Loop Plaza Story

Speakers: Jodi House, TBG Partners, Jeff Raudabaugh, TBG Partners, and Philip Hiatt Haigh, The Loop Dallas

The Loop Dallas connects 50 miles of trails across the city, anchored by The Loop Plaza – a dynamic space that transforms the iconic Katy Trail and its surrounding corridor into a vibrant, connected public destination. By reimagining an overlooked retaining wall as a tiered plaza and anchoring the space with Stratify, a sculptural landmark inspired by Dallas’ geology, the project creates a seamless connection between the Katy Trail, Victory Park, and the Design District. As the first major enhancement to this beloved trail system, The Loop Plaza demonstrates how unexpected opportunities in challenging spaces can catalyze community life, elevate urban experiences, and spark revitalization, setting a new standard for urban trail design.

Thursday, April 2nd from 10:00am – 11:00am (Session 7B)

Designing for Life and Death: Green Burial Grounds as Living Landscapes

Speakers: Elaine Kearney, TBG Partners, Leah Gundrum, TBG Partners*, Bethany Foshée, Coastal Prairie Conservancy and Cemetery Manager for Nature’s Burial

*based on work while at TBG Partners

What if burial grounds could heal both people and the planet? This panel explores how green burial grounds offer landscape architects an unexpected opportunity to design landscapes that honor the dead while supporting the living communities and ecosystems around them. Bethany Foshée, will share the story of Blazing Star Sanctuary—Texas’s first Certified Conservation Cemetery. Leah Gundrum, will examine case studies of existing green burial grounds and what they reveal about ecological stewardship, cultural meaning, and design potential.

These ideas we’re explored through TBG’s Idea Lab Program.

We’re looking forward to engaging discussions and the opportunity to learn from and connect with fellow landscape architects and industry professionals at this year’s conference. See you there!
