Grand Opening of Heritage Park: All Aboard!
Sachse, Texas, celebrated a momentous occasion: the grand opening of Heritage Park, a signature city park expansion that connects Sachse’s past with its future, crafting a central social space that fosters community interaction and pride. The City of Sachse interviewed TBG design leads Brennan Dedon and Tom Wenner in a video tour of the park expansion.
A collaborative effort:
Shaped by authentic community dialogue, the park’s design resonates with the people of Sachse, embodying their spirit and values. Through a partnership with PMB Capital Investments and the City of Sachse, the team at TBG designed Heritage Park as a symbol of Sachse’s heritage and a catalyst for future growth, enhancing residents’ quality of life and strengthening the city’s social fabric.
A design that is both reflective and forward-looking:
Heritage Park is the new heart of Sachse, celebrating the city’s rich history and bright future. The park’s design honors the city’s development from the Santa Fe Trail, with thematic elements reflecting the rail history of the 1900s. This historical narrative is woven into the park, with a train rail park experience, Sachse water tower slide, and a train track path that encompasses the park. Different elevations of grade and varying heights of activity define the different experiences. The upper playground featuring the water tower slide berms down into a natural play area for younger ages. The park’s layout and programming create an inclusive environment with cooperative play elements that bolster kids’ confidence to engage and meet socially, as well as their parents. The park pavilion depot, multiuse event lawn, boardwalk and amphitheater create opportunities for programming, connection, and access for the neighborhood and retail, ensuring the park becomes an inclusive space for all members of the community.
Looking forward:
At the end of the train tracks, a splash pad gives kids a water play opportunity. Sustainability is central to Heritage Park’s design; as such, water runoff from splash pad cycles into two amenity ponds to maintain a specific water level. Existing trees were preserved along the south park edge, while the northern area of the site was reshaped to create a larger pond and replanted with native wildflowers and trees.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the grand opening and to all who contributed to making this vision a reality. As Heritage Park continues to grow and thrive, we are proud to share this journey with the community.
