From Lubbock-Avalanche Journal…

The Lubbock City Council voted this month to hire a design team to craft plans for a potential downtown civic park.

The nearly two-acre “heartbeat of downtown” will be located on Broadway at the site of the former Lubbock Power & Light location — the plans are to demolish the now vacant building. A large public park will hopefully create more foot traffic along Broadway, thus creating more retail demand, and potentially spilling over into the arts and depot districts.

At the park itself, early visions included public concerts, outdoor seating, public art, water features, native landscape, large gathering spaces and different seasonal activities like yoga in the summer and ice skating in the winter.
