Breaking Ground in Downtown Lubbock

Construction is officially underway on Pickering Park, a transformative new civic space set to become the city’s newest landmark. While the City of Lubbock offers great parks and greenspaces, downtown has a dearth of spaces suitable for civic gatherings and recreation. Spanning a full city block the park will create a welcoming, event-driven green space where the community can gather, celebrate, and connect.

Introduced through the Lubbock Downtown Master Plan update, Pickering Park addresses a long-standing need for a centrally located public space capable of hosting civic events, everyday recreation, and cultural programming.  The park is a key catalyst for future mixed-use development and continued reinvestment in the urban core. Designed for all ages, Pickering Park will feature expansive open lawns, a multi-use stage, open lawn, large gathering areas featuring public art, outdoor seating, and a food truck park.

This exciting project wouldn’t be possible without the partnership between the City of Lubbock, Lubbock Downtown Park Conservancy, and the Pickering Family Foundation. We can’t wait to see this vision brought to life and look forward to updating you as construction progresses!
